
Shabnam Mokthar - is Vice President Consulting SHAPE Knowledge Services. Formerly, head of capital markets research for the International Shariah Research Academy (a unit of Bank Negara Malaysia – the central bank), Shabnam led multiple case study based research projects in the Sukuk market. At SHAPE®, she focuses on research and development. She takes the lead on crafting customized training for different clients. Recently she planned and delivered a fully customized four days train the trainer session for HSBC Amanah. The assignment involved conducting on site due diligence, developing fully customized materials (including case studies and assessment), and in-house delivery of the training sessions. Shabnam successfully completed her Master of Accounting with distinction from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA. Prior to joining ISRA, Shabnam was a faculty member teaching accounting, finance and bank management courses at University Putra Malaysia. She has conducted many training programs on Islamic banking, sukuk & Islamic capital market products, risk management and AAOIFI accounting for clients in the ASEAN region, East Asia, GCC and Europe. Shabnam has contributed chapters in Sukuk: Islamic Capital Market Series (Securities Commission Malaysia), Partnership Accounting, (McGraw Hill), ISRA-Cagamas Textbook and Managing Funds Flow Risks and Derivatives: Applications in Islamic Institutions (Securities Commission Malaysia). She is currently a member of the Sharia’a Board of Malaysian Ratings Corporation (MARC) as an AAOIFI qualified knowledgeable business person. Shabnam divides her time between Kuala Lumpur and Kuwait.
